Part of our party checked in on Thursday night and part came in on Friday afternoon. One of the people who checked in on Thursday night (and was staying in the master suite) is highly allergic to bed bugs and they leave whelps. Most people can receive a bedbug bite and it simply looks like a mosquito or other bug bite. When the initial bites showed up Friday morning, she wanted to just chalk them up to mosquito bites since the cabin is rural and the setting is in the woods. The entire family enjoyed fishing in the private pond Friday night even though there was an oily slick on top of the pond. We trailed the slick back to a burn pile for the new cabin that was being built on the other side of the pond where the construction crew was being allowed to throw construction scraps as well as cups, bottles, and a gallon oil jug into a burn pile that was upstream to the pond. The initial victim and the spouse went and investigated their bed and did find evidence of prior bedbug infestation, but did not find any new, live bugs.
By Saturday morning, the spouse of the initial victim had bites all over, 18 bites down one arm, the one that was outside the covers. A sibling of that person had been out fishing early that morning and there was someone around the pond that told him to take pictures of his catches and post them to the website for the cabins so they could have the advertising from the fishing abilities. This person had specific details as to what Cabin we were in, the name the reservations were under, our check in and out dates, and other details that someone not associated with the owners or rental company would not have. When the fisherman came back to the cabin and was advised of the bedbug issue, they went back to talk to the 'gentleman' who knew so many details of our reservation. He then claimed that he was 'only a contractor' and that we needed to use the phone number and email we had with our reservation to report the problems and that he could not assist. We left a voicemail, sent an email, and sent a text. We then left to enjoy a day on the lake to not lose the entire vacation. (Remainder of info on their Facebook page if he hasn't deleted it. Was too long for this page.)
